Before we Begin

Below you will find the filming locations of Shane Meadows - Dead Man's Shoes staring Paddy Considine, Gary Stretch and Toby Kebbell. The actual filming took place in 2004 and below are the film grabs from the film. Below you will also find photo's of how the filming locations look now (2007 and 2008) along with video footage taken of the area in (2007). Eventually, this will show a direct visual comparison of how the filming locations have changed over time (once we have found where the filming took place.)

We understand that some places and buildings might be totally unrecognisable due to massive development and area progress while some have gone the opposite direction towards deterioration and decay. That is the beauty of this amazing hobby; the use of visual imagination and a lot of research. If you know where the filming took place for this film, please use the contact form to get in touch. Additional Information

First and formost I would like to say Good luck to the second year film students at the Staffordshire University studying BSc (Hons) Film Production Technology. They had an assignment to recreate exactly a 3 minute section from a film. Their task was to teach them how to read an image and sound and also how to construct a sequence to professional standard. Marks were awarded on how close the finished project compared to the original. Their chosen film was Dead Man's Shoes. They choose this film because their campus in Stafford, Staffordshire was only an hours drive away from Matlock and they wanted to use as many of the original locations as possible. The three minute sequence chosen is exactly 44 minutes and 17 seconds into the film and runs 3 minutes after that - when the three drug dealers enter the house and arm themselves with a sword and crossbow.

Thanks to David Knowles from Darley Dale, Derbyshire, who contacted us to tell us the filming had taken place on Flash Lane, near Matlock. Dave even took time and trouble to locate the actual spot. We met up with Dave and his daughter Evie so we could take this photo.

Thanks to Eamonn Tully from Bonsall, Derbyshire, who contacted us to tell us the filming had taken place on Via Gellia road (A5012) , near Cromford.

"In the film grab you can see the profile off the hill on the right also the top of the quarry (by Paddys head). The small white blob in the middle of the picture is Via Gellia Mill, opposite my house. It bugged me when I saw this scene as I knew I'd seen it somewhere before, still the dog appreciated the walk finding it! Obviously the way they've edited the film together and the locations theirs no logic to the route at the start of the film! Example being my photo has them walking away from Bonsall Moor! (Bonsall Moor is where the farm is located).

Thanks Eamonn for all your hard work, I don't think we would have found it! If you would like to find this location, please contact me and I will send you a map.

Motson's Farm

Motson's Farm is where Richard holds up and plots his revenge.

When I spoke to the Spencer family who own the farm buildings used in the filming, they said it never had a name apart from the Spencer Farm. In the filming they only used the cattle shed not the old farm house, which they now use to store bails of hay. If you want to see what the farm house looks like view This is located just off Moorlane, Bonsall Dale. Reference N53.12369 X W1.60262. Please note this is private property, if you intend to trespass, please observe the country code and close the gates behind you as cattle is present in the fields. Also leave your vehicles down the road, as walkers and mountainbikers use the area, and might scratch your vehicle as they try and get pass.
